Therapy for Teens

Online & In-person in Texas

The teenage years can be rough!

As a parent, all you want is to watch your teen thrive and achieve their absolute highest potential. You have seen what they are capable of and you want to do everything you can to aid them in being successful. But for some reason they are struggling and you can’t seem to find what will help them to get back to the kid you know them to be.

Maybe you know what the source of their struggle is or it could be something you don’t even know about.

You may be watching your teen:

  • Struggle to get through each day

  • Holding something inside and not be able to share it

  • Spiraling but unable to accept your help

  • Hiding out in their bedroom all the time

  • Not wanting to be around their friends or family

  • Have difficulties in friendships that use to be easy

  • Fall unusually far behind in school or school work

Let’s help your teen to thrive.

My approach to working with teens

Teens often want someone who will really listen and understand what life is like for them. To have the chance to talk through things that others may dismiss as unimportant or just not a big deal. When they feel truly heard we can get to some deep work.

We will work together to identify where your teen feels like they are struggling and then decide on the goals they are ready to tackle. Throughout our work together we will continue to evaluate their goals and make sure we are heading in the best direction for them.

As we dive in, we often start to see changes in the way teens see themselves and how they interact with others. This can lead to healthier relationships at home and with their friends. We can also start to see changes with school as the workload starts to feel more manageable and attending school feels less like a punishment. As we see their self-worth start to grow they can regain their confidence and get back to accomplishing their goals.

What we’ll work on

Therapy can help your teen:

  • Believe in and value themselves

  • Identify healthy relationships in their life

  • Improve family relationships

  • Reduce anxiety

  • Improve their grades

You don’t have to watch your teen struggle anymore.

I’m here to support them and you.

FAQS

Common questions about therapy for teens

  • I have worked with many teens who initially did not want to come in for therapy but end up greatly benefiting from it. . I recommend talking to your teen about coming in for 1 session to start with and then we can go from there. This gives them the opportunity to see what a therapy session is like and allows us to start building rapport, which helps them to feel more comfortable moving forward. Often, once they see they have a safe space to talk about things they are willing to continue coming in.

  • I start working with parents from the beginning of the process. That will look a little different for each family based on the current situation and relationships in the family. I meet with parents on a monthly basis (unless more is needed) and this can either be with the teen or in a separate session, depending on family circumstances.

  • I find it important for teens to have confidentiality in their sessions in order for them to really open up and talk about important issues. During the first session we will address what I cannot keep confidential. Outside of those things, if something needs to be shared with parents we (teen client and I) will come up with a plan of what that looks like and then proceed with that plan.

  • I do have after school hours however, there are only so many after school appointments available. If your ideal time slot is not currently available I can give you a school excuse to submit to the school for the time your teen is in session until a later appointment is available. I find schools will usually try to work with you if they know you are seeking help.

  • The fastest way is to click the schedule free consultation button on the website and fill out the information on the form. We will work on confirming a time that we can do a free 15 minute consultation or if you would like to set up a first session without the consultation we can get that set up as well.

  • It can be frustrating when you go to therapy but don’t get what you are looking for. There is no guarantee that therapy will work, but together we can discuss what didn’t work for your teen before and try some different approaches. Sometimes it takes trying different things to find out what will work best for your teen. I am happy for us to dig in together and find a way for your teen to have the opportunity to really do some good work.
